You can have your data deleted from Colloquent, and you do not need an account with us to ask. This page says exactly what deletion reaches and what it does not, because a half-honoured deletion described as a complete one is worse than a refusal.
How to request it
Email [email protected] with the subject Data deletion request, including:
- the phone number in international format that you use on WhatsApp — this is how your records are found;
- the name of the business you were messaging, if you know it;
- whether you want the data deleted, or only to stop receiving messages.
We acknowledge within 24 hours and complete within 30 days. We will ask you to verify the number is yours first — acting on an unverified request is itself a way for someone to destroy another person’s records.
If you only want the messages to stop, there is a faster way.
Reply STOP to the business on WhatsApp. It is honoured immediately and
on every sending path in the product, with no email and no waiting.
START reverses it. Businesses can configure additional words in other
languages, so a phrase in your own language may work too.
Who to ask first
If a business messaged you, that business decides what happens to your conversation with it — we hold the data on their behalf. Asking them directly is usually faster, and they can act themselves from inside the product. We will act on a request sent to us regardless, and will notify the business that we have done so.
What deletion actually does
When a contact is erased we do not merely hide the record. The content of every message to and from you is emptied, which also clears it from the search index — hiding a row alone would leave the full text sitting in a search index while merely no longer returning it.

What is kept, and why
Each of these is kept for a reason we can state, and none contains the content of your messages.

What deletion cannot reach
- Raw delivery records from Meta. Every webhook Meta sends is archived exactly as received, for fault diagnosis and replay. Those records carry no reference to a contact and cannot be searched by person, so an individual deletion cannot reach them. They are erased in full 30 days after arrival by a scheduled sweep, so the longest any residue survives is 30 days.
- Backups. A backup taken before your request still contains what it contained; we do not restore a backup in order to edit it. Backups expire on their own rolling schedule, and a restore is followed by re-applying outstanding deletions.
- WhatsApp itself. Your own copy of the conversation, and Meta’s records of delivery, are not ours to delete. See WhatsApp’s help centre.
If you are a business using Colloquent
You can erase an individual contact from the product at any time — one action on the contact, performing everything described above.
To close your account, email [email protected] from an account owner address. On closure we disconnect your WhatsApp numbers from our application, returning full control to you, delete your workspace data, and delete stored media and credentials. Invoices and tax records are retained for the period Indian law requires. You can export contacts and message history first — ask and we will provide it.
Removing the Meta connection only
To revoke Colloquent’s access to your WhatsApp Business Account without deleting anything else, do it from Meta’s side, without us:
- Go to business.facebook.com/settings.
- Open Accounts → WhatsApp accounts.
- Select your WhatsApp Business Account, open Apps, and remove Colloquent.
Messages stop reaching us immediately. History already stored stays until you ask us to delete it, at the same address.
